The Richest Man in Babylon

The Richest Man In Babylon by George Samuel Clason

The Richest Man in Babylon is written by George S Clason who wrote a series of articles and pamphlets about bring thrifty shortly after the Great Depression.  Several insurance companies started giving these to customers because they talked about the value of insurance and eventually Clason Publishing compiled the group into a book.  The stories flow together with just some small section breaks and have interesting characters with easy to understand question and answers.

The Richest Man in Babylon an Introduction

The Richest Man in Babylon has a main character from the middle east named Arkad.  Arkad who is very wealthy tells his story how he started as poor low level worker (we would call it blue collar workers), and then started seeking answers on how to develop wealth and found someone who taught him the lessons and over several years and after making several mistakes was able to become the wealthiest man in the region.

The Richest Man in Babylon is not a story about keeping secrets, but instead is a story of finding the keys to money.  The first important lesson is to not be a servant to the merchants or your money, but to pay yourself every time you get some money.  This means every pay check you set aside ten percent that you never spend regardless of the circumstances or opportunities that come your way.    Then when you have wisely invested the money you saved you still keep reinvesting the return and you don’t start spending money on yourself until you are truly wealthy.
